Renee Gordon, the director of the city of Alexandria's Department of Emergency Communications, has been appointed by U.S. Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo to the board of the First Responder Network Authority.

Gordon will serve as one of the 12 non-permanent members chosen by the Department of Commerce, according to a Nov. 4 news release. The director of the Office of Management and Budget, the secretary of Homeland Security and the attorney general of the United States all hold permanent positions on the board.

“I am proud to announce the selection of Director Renee Gordon to serve on the FirstNet Authority Board,” Raimondo said in the release. “She brings years of public safety emergency communications experience, which will be a vital asset to an already diverse and dedicated board.”

The board keeps an eye on operations to make sure the FirstNet Authority and AT&T, its business partner, create, build and run a countrywide public safety broadband network that will best equip first responders to save lives and defend American communities, the release reported.

Raimondo thanked outgoing member Karima Holmes for her time and dedication guiding FirstNet through an investment and growth period in the network, the release said.

“Karima has been a valuable and dedicated member of the board and used her experience to dutifully serve the FirstNet Authority and the public safety community at-large,” Raimondo said in the release.
