Deputy Secretary of State Wendy Sherman spoke by phone yesterday with Canadian Deputy Foreign Minister David Morrison and congratulated him on his recent appointment. The Deputy Secretary thanked Canada for hosting Secretary Blinken’s recent visit to Ottawa and Montreal and expressed U.S. appreciation for ongoing close coordination with Canada on a wide range of bilateral and global issues. Deputy Secretary Sherman highlighted the U.S. and Canadian sanctions designations on Haitian nationals Joseph Lambert and Youri Latortue on November 4 for their involvement in international drug trafficking, and they discussed our continued support for the people of Haiti. The Deputy Secretary also noted the United States’ and Canada’s continued support for Ukraine and welcomed Canada’s interest in joining the Indo-Pacific Economic Framework for Prosperity.
