Two Omaha residents were sentenced for conspiracy to sex traffic minors following an investigation by Homeland Security Investigations and a joint law enforcement partners.
Carney Turner, 42, and Julisha Biggs, 20, were sentenced in federal court Nov. 8, according to a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement news release. The announcement was made by HSI Kansas City Special Agent in Charge Katherine Greer and U.S. Attorney Steven Russell.
“Criminals like these sentenced today, are more concerned with their own greed than the horrific circumstances they seek to expose minors to,” Greer said. “This sentencing should send a strong message that HSI and our law enforcement partners are committed to seeking, dismantling and bringing to justice those who seek to perpetrate sex trafficking and child exploitation crimes against minors.”
Turner was found guilty on one count of conspiring to traffic in juveniles for sex, three charges of engaging in intercourse with a minor and two counts of enticing a minor and was sentenced to life in prison. Biggs was sentenced to 87 months for her involvement in the sex trafficking conspiracy.
In the federal prison system, parole isn't an available option, the release reported. Biggs will have to register as a sex offender and undergo five years of supervised release following her release from prison. Co-Defendant Sidney Marker's sentencing is scheduled for 10 a.m. Nov. 14.
