Granholm: Applications open for DOE program for 'healthier learning environments and big cost savings'

The U.S. Department of Energy announced that applications are open for the Renew America's Schools grant program.

The first round of funding of up to $80 million of the $500 million program is available to public schools for energy improvements in school districts across the country, according to a Nov. 29 news release.

"By making our students' learning environments healthier with these critical energy improvements, our children will be better able to reach their full potential in the classroom," Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm said in the news release. "DOE is working diligently to deploy these critical funds so that schools can start turning infrastructure improvements into healthier learning environments and big cost savings, as soon as possible."

The funding also is part of President Joe Biden's administration's broader Action Plan for Building Better School Infrastructure, a program intended to help create healthier learning environments, lower utility costs and redirect funding for students and teachers, the release reported.

"Applications are now open for the #RenewAmericasSchools grant program, which will be making up to $80 million available for energy improvements in high-need K-12 school districts across the country," U.S. Department of Energy said in a Nov. 29 Twitter post.

Applicant concept papers are due Jan. 26, 2023, with full applications due April 21, 2023, according to the news release.
