REDDING, Calif. - The Bureau of Land Management Redding Field Office will conduct prescribed burning projects in the Swasey Recreation Area through Dec. 9. Smoke may be visible in west Redding as fire crews complete fuels projects to remove piles of brush and other vegetation.
Fire crews plan to cover five to 10 acres per day when weather and fuel conditions allow for safe and successful burning. Project managers will monitor smoke production and direction and will halt ignition if impacts to communities are seen or anticipated. Operations will be conducted from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily.
“This project is part of our ongoing work to improve wildfire resiliency by reducing fuel loads and limiting the probability that a wildfire could climb into the tree canopy and spread," said Jennifer Mata, manager of the BLM Redding Field Office. “Work will also improve the scenic quality of our BLM-managed lands."
The BLM conducts prescribed fire operations in accordance with burn plans that specify allowable weather and fuel conditions and requirements for personnel and equipment.
