Thank you, Madam Chair. We would also like to thank the facilitators for their leadership on this resolution. We are pleased to join consensus on it today.
I would like to begin by underscoring the U.S. commitment to the full achievement and implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, its Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and the Addis Ababa Action Agenda. However, we regret that there remains a reference to “no country left behind” in PP21.
The United States fully supports the 2030 Agenda, which emphasizes the importance of leaving “no one” behind. We do not support language that attempts to shift the discussion towards a narrower set of vested country interests and away from those that sustainable development impacts the most: individuals and communities. We must therefore disassociate from this paragraph.
We refer you to our general statement delivered earlier this afternoon regarding our position with respect to this resolution’s references to the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, the Addis Ababa Action Agenda, special drawing rights, concessional finance, and the characterization of trade and technology transfer.
Thank you.
