The United States is pleased to join consensus on this resolution. We take this opportunity to clarify our position on a few issues related to this resolution.

The United States joined many other delegations in raising concerns about a possible “Earth Assembly” in 2024, given that no mandate exists for this event and no budgetary resources have been identified. An interactive dialogue does not have the authority to make decisions about modalities or expected outcomes of a high-level UN meeting.

Regarding references to the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the Addis Ababa Action Agenda, we refer you to our General Statement delivered in the session on November 21.
