TSA Pre✓® comes to The Eastern Iowa Airport

The following local press release was published by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, Transportation Security Administration on July 20, 2017. It is reproduced in full below.

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) announced today that The Eastern Iowa Airport (CID) now participates in the TSA Pre✓® program, which allows some travelers to leave on their shoes, light outerwear and belt, keep their laptop in its case and keep 3-1-1 compliant liquids/gels in a carry-on bag.

The TSA Pre✓® lane will be available during select, peak travel times based on projected airline passenger volume. Five airlines that serve CID - Allegiant, American Airlines, Delta Air Lines, Frontier Airlines and United Airlines - all participate in TSA Pre✓®.

“TSA Pre✓® is a signature program of the agency designed for passengers who are low-risk, Trusted Travelers," said TSA Federal Security Director for Iowa David Dailey. “By providing these individuals a streamlined trip through the security checkpoint, TSA officers can focus their resources on passengers who may pose a higher or unknown risk."

“The airport, in partnership with TSA, is very pleased to be offering TSA Pre✓®," said the Eastern Iowa Airport Director Marty Lenss. “Customers participating in the TSA Pre✓® program will now be able to enjoy all the program benefits."

In order to receive TSA Pre✓® on a consistent basis, travelers who are U.S. citizens or lawful permanent residents can enroll in one of four Department of Homeland Security Trusted Traveler programs. For information on the programs that include TSA Pre✓® eligibility, visit the Department of Homeland Security’s website.

Local residents can sign-up for TSA Pre✓® and Trusted Traveler status at the IdentoGo office located at 625 1st Ave. SW in Cedar Rapids. Enrollment is offered Monday - Friday, 9 - 11:30 a.m. and from 12:30 - 4 p.m.

Interested travelers can begin the application process online and schedule an appointment by visiting the Universal Enroll website. Click on the words, “Apply Now." Walk-ins are also accepted.

Applicants are required to make an in-person visit to an enrollment center to verify citizenship or immigration status, as well as to provide fingerprints. There is a nonrefundable application processing fee of $85. Trusted Traveler status is good for five years.

Once approved, passengers will receive a Known Traveler Number (KTN) making them eligible to utilize TSA Pre✓® lanes on a consistent basis at airport security checkpoints nationwide. Travelers are encouraged to save their KTN in their frequent flyer profiles. Children 12 and under are permitted to use the TSA Pre✓® lane when traveling with a TSA Pre✓® eligible parent or guardian.

TSA Pre✓® lanes are available at more than 180 airports nationwide. Thirty-seven airlines participate in the program. More than 5 million people have enrolled with TSA for Trusted Traveler status.

When a passenger is eligible for TSA Pre✓®, a code is embedded in the barcode of the passenger’s boarding pass. TSA scans the barcode at the checkpoint and the passenger can be referred to the TSA Pre✓® lane.

As always, TSA continues to incorporate random and unpredictable security measures both seen and unseen throughout the airport. All travelers will be screened, and no individual will be guaranteed expedited screening. To learn more about TSA Pre✓®, visit tsa.gov.
