ANNAPOLIS, Md. - Maryland travelers who are interested in applying for TSA Pre✓® can now do so in three designated Motor Vehicle Administration offices in Maryland-in the Annapolis, Salisbury and Waldorf branch offices. Yes, area residents now can do more than get a driver’s license, pick up license plates or take a driver’s test at these three DMV offices.
TSA Pre✓® is the popular Transportation Security Administration program that allows U.S. citizens and lawful permanent residents to enroll directly in the TSA Pre✓® expedited screening program that allows travelers to leave on their shoes and light-weight jackets when getting screened at designated airport checkpoint lanes as well as allowing them to keep their personal electronic devices in their carry-on bags and their 3-1-1 liquids in their carry-on bags.
Maryland residents will be able to go through a pre-enrollment process online at TSA.gov and complete their background interview at the new application center at the DMV offices in Annapolis, Salisbury or Waldorf branch offices. They can also apply as walk-ins. Application services for the program are open at the three MVA branches Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m.
The TSA Pre✓® application process allows U.S. citizens and lawful permanent residents to go through a quick pre-enrollment process online and visit an application center to provide biographic information (e.g. name, date of birth, address, etc.), fingerprints, payment and valid required identity and citizenship/immigration documentation. All TSA Pre✓® program applicants must visit an application center in-person to verify their identity and citizenship/immigration status as well as to provide fingerprints.
The TSA Pre✓® Application Program requires a background check, fingerprints, and an application fee of $85 for a five-year membership. Once approved, travelers will receive a Known Traveler Number (KTN) and will have the opportunity to utilize TSA Pre✓® lanes at security checkpoints at more than 200 participating airports and on 37 major airlines.
Simple steps to enroll in and use TSA Pre✓®:
1. Complete an online application.
2. Schedule an appointment at a TSA Pre✓® application center.
3. Visit the TSA Pre✓® application center, pay the $85 fee, provide valid government identification and fingerprints.
4. A Known Traveler Number will be sent to you via U.S. mail or can be obtained online.
5. Once successfully enrolled, provide your Known Traveler Number in the “Known Traveler Number" field when making airline reservations.
As always, TSA continues to incorporate random and unpredictable security measures throughout the airport and no individual will be guaranteed expedited screening. Additional program information and how to enroll can be found at TSA.gov.
