TSA breaks single-day record for passengers screened at ORD

The following local press release was published by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, Transportation Security Administration on July 24, 2019. It is reproduced in full below.

CHICAGO - Transportation Security Administration officers working at Chicago O’Hare International Airport (ORD) checkpoints screened 109,639 passengers and crew on Friday, July 19, breaking the previous single-day record of 108,360 set on March 22, 2019.

With prior planning and support of our airport and airline partners, TSA was able to work efficiently throughout the record-breaking day. More than 98% of passengers waited less than 20 minutes in standard screening lanes, and wait times remained six minutes or less for all TSA Pre✓® passengers.

Passenger volumes continue to be heavy throughout the summer, especially at ORD, which has seen year-over-year passenger growth of more than 4%.

TSA strongly recommends travelers arrive at least two hours prior to their scheduled departure times to ensure adequate time for ticketing, checking baggage and security screening.
