Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo and European Commission Executive Vice-President Margrethe Vestager announced the creation of the Talent for Growth Task Force Dec. 5.

This initiative has the aim of preparing and training U.S. workers to be able to handle and use modern and emerging technology, according to a Dec. 5 U.S. Department of Commerce news release.

“Competition for technological leadership today demands a well-trained workforce. Training is key to creating broad participation in today’s economy,” Raimondo said in the release. “With the Talent for Growth Task Force, we will learn from each other’s successes and create new opportunities that recognize the talent of our people.”

The Task Force will be made up of leaders from a variety of fields, including business, government, labor unions and others from both the United States and the EU, the release reported. The two entities will exchange information and use this mutual learning to better workforce training. The initiative also aims to enhance public and private participation in workforce development.

“By knowing what you do in digital enables people to create and shape digitization. Good for people, for societies and the economies,” Vestager said, according to the release.

The Task Force will help map the skills necessary to realize the benefits of digital technologies so that workers and companies of all sizes can succeed in the global economy and learn from each other, she added, according to the release.
