U.S. Secretary of Energy Jennifer Granholm signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Navajo Nation President Jonathan Nez to guarantee that the Biden-Harris administration’s clean energy agenda is “equitable, just and inclusive of Tribal Nation partners.”
According to Granholm, this entails creating community strategy plans, boosting energy program capacity, improving communication between federal agencies and the Navajo Nation and offering support to aid the Navajo Nation to achieve energy goals, according to a Twitter post Dec. 6.
“Ahe’hee’ Secretary Jennifer Granholm for ensuring that the Navajo Nation and Tribal Nations are included on the clean energy initiatives for a better and sustainable future," Nez posted on Twitter Dec. 6.
Nez also posted a video about the MOU where he said with the closure of coal fire power plants around the Navajo nation it is important that they look toward the future. The Inflation Reduction Act has funding for organizations and governments, as well as for for Tribal communities, according to the Twitter post.
"Together with the Navajo Nation, @Interior, and others, we're going to make sure infrastructure, manufacturing and workforce investments from @POTUS' #BipartisanInfrastructureLaw, #InflationReductionAct, + #CHIPSandScienceAct are put to use in a strategic, coordinated manner,” Granholm said on Twitter.
“That includes developing community strategy plans, building capacity for energy programs, enhancing coordination between federal agencies and the Navajo Nation and providing technical guidance and support that will help the Navajo Nation reach its energy goals," she added, according to Twitter.
