Our Amazing Grasslands - Lower Brule Farms

In this six minute video release, we visit with A. Jay Heiss, the Manager of Lower Brule Farms, an entity of the Lower Brule Sioux Tribe in Lower Brule, South Dakota (SD). A. Jay manages grasslands to promote good stewardship, wildlife habitat, and healthy soil, receiving the benefits and profitability of soil health practices even in times of drought. "Every pasture will get at least 90 days of rest and recovery time before I go back in. The cattle have benefitted from it, the pounds per gain have benefitted, and we have run I'd say 40 percent more cattle on a rotation program opposed to running season long grazing."

The South Dakota Grassland Coalition (SDGC) partnered with the organizations listed below to enhance the Grassland Planner with a release of a short video story each month during 2022, promoting healthy soils, grasslands, and ecosystems. Please enjoy the "Our Amazing Grasslands" feature story for December 2022.
