Raimondo: EDA investment to play 'important role in supporting new food industry businesses in New York'

Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo announced Peekskill Facilities Development Corporation, in Peekskill, N.Y., was awarded a $2.4 million grant to support the establishment of the Peekskill Commercial Kitchen Food Incubator.

The funds will be used to renovate a former fire station, making it accessible for multiple people and businesses at once. The grant amount was matched with local funds, according to a Dec. 21 U.S. Economic Development Administration news release.

“This EDA investment will play an important role in supporting new food industry businesses in New York, helping to create greater economic opportunity and a more diverse regional economy,” Raimondo said in the release.

The project will enable Peekskill to build on local assets to support business development, Assistant Secretary of Commerce for Economic Development Alejandra Y. Castillo said, according to the release.

Rep. Mondaire Jones, D-N.Y., said the grant is an investment in the city and the Hudson Valley region, according to the release.

“I’m proud of the federal government’s partnership with the city of Peekskill in securing this funding, which will help establish the Peekskill Firehouse Kitchen Incubator, give new food entrepreneurs the opportunity to start their businesses, strengthen our local economy and create hundreds of jobs right here in Peekskill,” Jones said in the release.
