“The majority’s inadequate proposal in response to the humanitarian crisis at our borders is unacceptable and would guarantee another emergency in September, raising the prospect of government shutdown.
“Republicans fail to provide what is needed to equip border security, judicial, and human services personnel to address this crisis immediately. Yet, they propose making rash, ill-considered, and divisive changes to longstanding immigration law after refusing for over a year to debate bipartisan, comprehensive immigration reform, which could have helped prevent the crisis we currently face.
“Funding is desperately needed to increase security agents and to expedite adjudication and care for those unaccompanied children who cross the border. The House is in session a mere 12 days before the end of the fiscal year, and rather than acting strongly and proactively, this bill simply kicks the can down the road.
“I urge the majority to join Democrats in rejecting extraneous and divisive policy changes and providing resources to address this humanitarian crisis."
