Lowey Statement on Majority's FY17 Budget Resolution

The following press release was published by the U.S. Department of HCA on March 17, 2016. It is reproduced in full below.

Congresswoman Nita Lowey (D-NY), Ranking Democrat on the House Appropriations Committee, today issued the following statement on the House Republican majority’s Fiscal Year 2017 budget resolution:

“The majority’s ‘Road to Ruin’ budget would devastate good-paying jobs, end the Medicare guarantee, and increase poverty in our communities. It raids billions in Overseas Contingency Operations (OCO) funding to finance non-war related spending, likely making a supplemental necessary later this year to keep the United States and our allies safe.

“Regardless of the majority’s embarrassing contortions on a budget resolution, the Appropriations process should proceed, keeping faith with spending limits enacted through the Bipartisan Budget Act and providing for emergency investments to protect American communities from the Zika virus, lead contamination, and opioid abuse.

“Democrats stand ready and willing to work on Appropriations bills that support good-paying jobs and robust investments in our schools and infrastructure, and create a level playing field for hard-working Americans and their children to succeed."
