Lowey Statement on Bipartisan Budget Agreement

The following press release was published by the U.S. Department of HCA on July 22, 2019. It is reproduced in full below.

WASHINGTON - House Appropriations Committee Chairwoman Nita M. Lowey (D-NY-17) today issued the following statement on the bipartisan agreement to raise unworkable budget caps and suspend the debt ceiling:

“House Democrats have insisted on raising unworkable budget caps to ensure that Congress can responsibly fund our government and uphold our commitment to America’s families. That’s what this agreement does.

“While the bipartisan deal represents a compromise, I am proud that this agreement ends the senseless austerity imposed by the Budget Control Act. It thoroughly rejects the President’s reckless slash-and-burn budget proposal, and provides the largest-ever increase in base funding above sequestration levels.

“With the more reasonable budget caps in this agreement, we will be able to undertake an orderly appropriations process and invest For the People - in priorities like education, health care, infrastructure, the environment, and tackling the climate crisis."
