WASHINGTON - House Appropriations Committee Chairwoman Nita M. Lowey (D-NY-17) released the following statement after the Senate passed two legislative packages that together comprise all 12 fiscal year 2020 funding bills:
“I am pleased that the Senate has cleared our fiscal year 2020 spending bills for the President’s signature. Once enacted, these full-year bills will provide strong investments that grow our economy, strengthen communities, and secure our nation.
“I am particularly proud that House Democrats prevailed in securing historic investments For the People, including record funding levels for Head Start and lifesaving medical research at NIH, and in funding priorities vital to our shared security, like gun violence prevention research and election security grants to states. And with full funding for the 2020 Census, we have scaled up resources to ensure a fair and accurate count.
“This spending agreement reflects Democrats’ commitment to fighting for America’s families and communities, so every person can have a better chance at a better life. I look forward to its enactment."
The spending packages - H.R. 1865, a domestic priorities and international assistance appropriations minibus, and H.R. 1158, a national security appropriations minibus - passed the House on December 17 and now head to the President for his signature into law.
