Today, Administrator Samantha Power was briefed by Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan on the ongoing blockage of the Lachin Corridor, the sole road linking Armenia to Nagorno-Karabakh, and the deteriorating humanitarian situation there.
During the call, Administrator Power expressed her concern for the communities affected. She affirmed USAID’s position that full commercial access remains critical to preventing a humanitarian crisis and that a diplomatic solution is the best option to allow for the import of critical supplies and food.
The Administrator also urged further efforts toward a broader agreement to foster sustainable peace between Armenia and Azerbaijan and reaffirmed USAID and Armenia’s ongoing partnership and support for democratic institutions within the country.
