The Bureau of Land Management Las Cruces District announces monthly guided hikes to the Discovery Site at Prehistoric Trackways National Monument on Jan. 21 at 9 a.m.
Be prepared to hike approximately 2.5-3 miles on rough and rocky terrain in warm conditions while learning about the climate and the organisms that inhabited Las Cruces 286 million years ago. Leading the hike will be BLM Las Cruces District Paleontologist Colin Dunn.
Come out and observe the world-renowned track fossils. All you need to bring is plenty of water along with footwear for rough/rocky terrain and appropriate attire. Meet-up will be in the second parking lot of the monument. Go west from the intersection of Shalem Colony Trail and Rocky Acres Trail about ¼ mile then take the dirt road on the left labeled “Permian Acres.”
