REDDING, Calif. - Fire crews from the Bureau of Land Management will be burning piles of brush and tree limbs near the Trinity County communities of Douglas City and Lewiston beginning Monday, Feb. 13, and continuing through Friday, Feb. 24.

Burning will take place only when weather conditions allow for safe and successful burning and smoke dispersion. Smoke will be visible from nearby communities.

“These piles are from our ongoing fuels reduction work aimed at improving fire resilience, reducing wildfire severity risk and providing better opportunities for structure defense in the event of a wildfire," said Jennifer Mata, manager of the BLM Redding Field Office.

On allowable burn days, crews will ignite burn piles off Indian Creek Road in Douglas City, and Rush Creek Road in Lewiston, covering approximately five to 10 acres each day. The projects will conform to burn plans that specify allowable weather and fuel conditions and the required equipment and personnel.

Additional information is available from the Redding Field Office, 530-224-2100.
