There were 70 press releases published by the U.S. Department of Labor in January.

The most recent press release, "Federal investigation into fatal 2022 electrocution in Kansas City finds Midwest engineering services company again failed to protect workers," was submitted on Jan. 31.

The U.S. Department of Labor published 66 releases the month before, marking a 6.1 percent increase for the current month.

The Department provides billions in unemployment insurance, which peaked around 2011 though spending had declined before the pandemic. Downsizing the Federal Government, a project aimed at lowering taxes and boosting federal efficiency, claimed the Department funds "ineffective and duplicative services" and overregulates the workplace.

The proposed budget provides a significant boost to the DOL’s funding from $12.5 billion to $14.2 billion, a 13.6% increase.
