Washington, DC - Rep. Elijah E. Cummings, Ranking Member of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, issued the following statement after voting in favor of the Bipartisan Budget Act, which passed in the House of Representatives today:
“The American people have made clear that they want Congress to work together to get things done. While this budget agreement is not perfect, it moves in the right direction and prevents another manufactured crisis and disastrous government shutdown. Although the agreement removes sequestration for two years - a step in the right direction - I am disappointed that the government continues to treat federal employees like a piggy bank whenever it needs new revenue. Sadly, this agreement also ignores the need to extend unemployment benefits for those still suffering the consequences of our economic recession."
