A severe squall line has passed through the Fort Donelson NB area, with winds in excess of 60 mph continuing at this time.The continuation of falling of trees and flying debris has resulted in closure to park operations and access to public.The park will provide updates once the wind gusts pass, and an updated evaluation can be determined prior to consideration of public access and reopening.
Condition/Status:
- As of 2:00 pm CST, a preliminary from-vehicle evaluation does not indicate a large number of trees down.
- Snags and hanging limbs along park roads and/or infrastructure were identified.
- Fort Donelson National Cemetery currently has the most significant identifiable damage to trees and possibly grave markers.
- The park's remote and un-staffed Fort Heiman Unit, Kentucky, will likely not be assessed until tomorrow, due to reports of numerous blocked/closed state and county roads leading to the unit.
