Ambassador Linda Thomas-Greenfield, U.S. Representative to the United Nations, to serve as U.S. Head of Delegation to the 67th Session of the UN Commission on the Status of Women

The United States Mission to the United Nations today announced the U.S. delegation to the 67th Session of the UN Commission on the Status of Women (CSW), to be held March 6 through 17, 2023 at United Nations Headquarters in New York, with Side Events livestreamed.

The priority theme of CSW67 is “Innovation and technological change, and education in the digital age for achieving gender equality and the empowerment of all women and girls.”

The review theme is “Challenges and opportunities in achieving gender equality and the empowerment of rural women and girls.”

U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Linda Thomas-Greenfield will serve as Head of Delegation and will deliver the national statement on behalf of the United States at the General Discussion on March 7, during CSW high-level week.

Jennifer Klein, Director of the White House Gender Policy Council and Ambassador Lisa Carty, Representative of the United States to the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations, will serve as the Alternate Representatives.

Ambassador Thomas-Greenfield will be accompanied by senior government advisers from the Department of State – Katrina Fotovat, Senior Official in the Secretary’s Office of Global Women’s Issues and Rina Amiri, Special Envoy for Afghan Women, Girls, and Human Rights as well as Deputy Assistant Secretary for International Organizations, Allison Lombardo.

The Permanent U.S. Delegation also coordinates closely with a range of experts across the U.S. government to advance this year’s priority theme.

These officials will also be accompanied by three non-government advisers:

• Dr. Mary Anne Franks, Professor of Law at the University of Miami School of Law and President and Legislative & Tech Policy Director of the Cyber Civil Rights Initiative, a nonprofit organization dedicated to combating online abuse and discrimination. She is an expert in First Amendment law, criminal law, and law and technology. In 2013, she drafted the first U.S. model criminal statute on nonconsensual pornography.
• Luna Abadía, a college student studying Human Rights Policy at Duke University, is the founder of the Effective Climate Action Project, a youth-led environmental organization with a mission to promote effective and systemic solutions to climate change.  She is a gender and climate justice advocate and Youth Advisory Board member with Plan International USA.
• Sonia Jorge, Founder and Executive Director of Global Digital Inclusion Partnership, a coalition of public, private, and civil society organizations working to bring internet connectivity to the global majority.  

The annual two-week session of the CSW is the most important annual meeting on women’s issues at the United Nations. Convened annually and often referred to as “the high-level week for gender equality,” CSW brings together representatives of the Commission’s 45 member governments, the full UN membership and civil society to discuss ways to improve women’s lives at the conference.
