Readout of Ambassador Tai’s Meeting with Brazilian Civil Society Leaders

United States Trade Representative Katherine Tai today met with a diverse group of civil society leaders to discuss the importance of policies that encourage equitable and inclusive prosperity. Ambassador Tai highlighted President Biden’s commitment to building the economy from the bottom up and the middle out, including through trade policy. She also highlighted the joint commitment of President Biden and President Lula Da Silva to reinvigorate the U.S.-Brazil Joint Action Plan to Eliminate Racial and Ethnic Discrimination and Promote Equality.
 
The participants discussed their efforts to increase entrepreneurship for small and medium sized enterprises, especially women-owned enterprises, as well as the challenges to creating economic opportunity for minorities, disabled people and other disadvantaged communities. Ambassador Tai highlighted the findings of the U.S. International Trade Commission study she requested on the distributional effects of trade policy on underserved communities and emphasized her commitment to working with all trade partners to champion the interests of everyday people.
