Subcommittee on Government Operations and the Federal Workforce Chairman Pete Sessions (R-Texas) will hold a hearing titled “Waste, Fraud, and Abuse Go Viral: Inspectors General on Curing the Disease.” This subcommittee hearing will examine ways the federal government can limit improper payments in vulnerable pandemic relief funds and ensure federal agencies are moving aggressively to implement measures to better protect taxpayer funds.
“It is well documented that waste, fraud, and abuse have run rampant through federal COVID-19 pandemic relief funds,” said Subcommittee Chairman Sessions. “From the beginning of the COVID-19 response, there were concerns the trillions in relief were vulnerable to fraud and improper payments and we have seen those concerns come to fruition. The inspectors general appearing before our Subcommittee will inform us on what progress has been made to date in the agencies they oversee, and what still needs to be done to protect against fraud and improper payments. It is our duty to the American people to identify any legislative or regulatory loopholes that allowed rampant fraud and criminal activity to occur.”
