The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) added Indonesia to the list of regions affected by African swine fever (ASF). On Dec. 17, 2019, the veterinary authorities of the Republic of Indonesia reported to the World Organization of Animal Health (OIE) the occurrence of ASF in that country. This confirmation of the ASF outbreak supported APHIS’ action on Dec. 13, 2019, adding the Republic of Indonesia to the list of regions where ASF exists or is reasonably believed to exist. Pork and pork products, including casings, are now subject to import restrictions. This notice may be viewed at: https://www.regulations.gov/document?D=APHIS_FRDOC_0001-2406 ASF is a highly contagious disease of wild and domestic pigs that can spread quickly in swine populations.
