The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) is authorizing the import of fresh pummelo (Citrus maxima (Berm.) Merr.) fruit from Thailand into the continental United States.
This action finalizes a proposal APHIS published in the Federal Register on March 29, 2018. Based on the findings of the pest risk analysis, which APHIS also made available for public review and comment on March 29th, the Agency has determined that fresh pummelos from Thailand can be safely imported under specific phytosanitary measures that growers, packers, and shippers must meet to minimize the risk of introduction of plant pests and noxious weeds into the United States. For safe importation, fresh pummelo fruit from Thailand is subject to irradiation treatment, packinghouse processing requirements, and port of entry inspection. The fruit can only be imported in commercial consignments and must be accompanied by a phytosanitary certificate issued by the national plant protection organization of Thailand.
Fresh pummelo fruit from Thailand may be authorized for importation into the continental United States after Nov. 10, 2021.
