The U.S. Department of Labor announced that it has settled with Intelligent Waves, LLC to resolve an alleged systemic hiring discrimination against Black applicants.
According to a release, the technology solutions provider was committing the discrimination at the company’s Reston headquarters. An investigation found that the company discriminated against 14 Black applicants who were applying for jobs in Arizona and Nevada. Intelligent Waves is now required to pay $435,368 in back pay and interest to affected job seekers, as well as provide job offers to eligible class members and take steps to prevent this discrimination from happening in the future.
“Our settlement with Intelligent Waves reflects our commitment to preventing hiring discrimination and holding federal contractors accountable when they fail to ensure equal employment opportunity,” said Sam Maiden, who is the Regional Director of the Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs Mid-Atlantic in Philadelphia.
Intelligent Waves is based in Virginia and has contracts with the U.S. Air Force, Department of Veterans Affairs, General Services Administration and National Aeronautics and Space Administration. The company’s focus is technology solutions in cybersecurity, data science, enterprise network and systems engineering, software development and platform mission support.
According to the release, Executive Order 11246 prohibits federal contractors from discriminating in employment based on race, sex, color, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity and national origin.
This settlement follows OFCCP launching the Class Member Locator to find applicants and/or workers who may be entitled monetary relief, as well as potential consideration for job placement.
Those who think they may be a class member who applied between November 5, 2019, through August 31, 2021, can visit the OFCCP website to find more information about this case, as well as other settlements. Additional information can be found by calling 800-397-6251.
