Emmer: Recent visit 'demonstrated the need to address the regulatory state overwhelming manufacturers in the heartland'

House Majority Whip Rep. Tom Emmer, R-Minn., said federal regulations are causing significant harm among American manufacturers. His remarks were made after a recent visit and discussion with manufacturers, according to a National Association of Manufacturers Aug. 11 news release.

"My visit to Glenn Metalcraft demonstrated the need to address the regulatory state overwhelming manufacturers in the heartland," Emmer said in the release. "Small and medium-sized manufacturers are working hard to grow their businesses and increase compensation for employees, but those efforts are undermined by new regulations and the lack of permanent, competitive tax policies to promote research and development and capital investment."

During Emmer's tour of Glenn Metalcraft, they discussed the issue of federal regulations harming manufacturers across the country, the release reported.

Glenn Metalcraft President and CEO Joe Glenn expressed his gratitude for the NAM and Emmer’s sympathy, and emphasizes the burden regulatory policies put on manufacturers, according to the release.

In an attempt to address these federal regulations, the Manufacturers for Sensible Regulations coalition was formed. The release reported this coalition works to address the "impact of the current regulatory onslaught coming from federal agencies."

A study titled “NAM’s Q2 2023 Manufacturers’ Outlook Survey” revealed 63% of manufacturers claim the time they spend annually complying with regulations from the federal government adds up to more than 2,000 hours, the release reported. Additionally, 17% reportedly claim that number surpasses 10,000 hours.

The study reported the lowest number of manufacturers with a positive outlook on their business since quarter three of 2019, according to the release.

The NAM, according to its website, is an association of more than 12.9 million people. They strive, the website says, to uphold the values of liberty, opportunity and competitiveness, and represent manufacturers across America, reportedly having 14,000 companies as members, ranging in size and industry.

"I want to thank the National Association of Manufacturers and Glenn Metalcraft for providing insight that will guide my work in Congress," Emmer added, according to the release.
