Secretary of State Antony Blinken recently reaffirmed the U.S.' unwavering commitment to Ukraine's security and sovereignty, highlighting the need to counter Russia's aggressive actions and uphold international peace and security.

"Last week, President Biden requested $24.1 billion from Congress to deliver on that promise and continue to support Ukraine’s security, its economic, its humanitarian needs – as well as to help other countries experiencing the effects of Russia’s war," Blinken said in a State Department release. "Our effort and resources, and those of allies and partners around the world, have enabled Ukrainians to fight for their lives, for their freedom, for their future.

"They’ve helped uphold the basic principles – sovereignty, territorial integrity, independence – that are vital to maintaining international peace and security. They’ve ensured that Russia’s invasion remains a strategic failure," Blinken added, according to the release.

The funding request encompasses several critical aspects, including security, economic development and humanitarian aid for Ukraine. Additionally, the proposal extends its support to other nations grappling with the aftermath of Russia's aggression, according to a letter from the Office of Management and Budget. This funding is not only a financial investment but a demonstration of solidarity with countries striving to preserve their sovereignty and territorial integrity.

In the State Department release, Blinken urged Congress to promptly pass the legislation, emphasizing the need for swift action to ensure the effectiveness of the support.

"I urge Congress to pass this legislation funding – the supplemental funding right away," Blinken said in the release.

The commitment to Ukraine's security also extends into the long-term, with the Department of State working closely with Ukrainian partners to establish enduring security commitments, the release reported. These commitments are aimed at deterring future Russian aggression and enabling Ukraine to defend itself effectively against any potential threats.

"Ukraine should be clear about the enduring nature of our support and that of many other countries that will provide similar commitments to Ukraine. President Putin should be clear about the futility of pursuing his aggression," Blinken said in the release.

Amid concerns about Russia's destabilizing activities in various regions, the funding proposal includes an allocation of $200 million to counter these malign actions in African nations, the letter reported.
