The VA Affairs Department stated that three VA facilities in Michigan will serve as test sites for voter registration.

The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) has announced that three VA facilities in Michigan will serve as test sites for voter registration. The Saginaw VA Medical Center, the Detroit VA Medical Center, and the Detroit Regional Office have been designated as voter registration sites under an interagency agreement signed on National Voter Registration Day, September 19, 2023.

This agreement aims to make it easier for Michigan veterans and their eligible dependents to exercise their right to vote. The VA will provide information and support to help veterans register to vote at these three sites. The initiative is part of the implementation of Executive Order 14019, "Promoting Access to Voting," which seeks to expand citizens' opportunities to participate in the electoral process.

Governor Gretchen Whitmer expressed the importance of veterans being able to participate in democracy, stating that those who have served our country in uniform must have their voices heard in elections. The partnership between the VA and Michigan will not only enable veterans and their families to register to vote but also ensure their views are represented.

Michigan has made significant strides in increasing civil rights this year, including the facilitation of secure voting through Proposal 2. The collaboration between the state and the VA further encourages military families, who have sacrificed so much for our liberties, to fully participate in our democracy. Further information on how veterans can register to vote can be found on the VA's website, and the Michigan Voter Information Center provides details on how to vote and register in the state.
