Missouri Rep. Blaine Luetkemeyer has emphasized the significance of addressing the persistent threats posed by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) to the United States. The CCP's actions jeopardize national security by attempting to breach military bases, and Luetkemeyer has actively advocated for and introduced several Acts aimed at countering the CCP's activities.
In a statement, Luetkemeyer said, "The CCP poses an immediate threat with long-lasting implications. We must act now to ensure future generations enjoy the economic freedom and domestic security inherent to America’s identity."
The CCP has infiltrated U.S. military bases over 100 times by disguising operatives as tourists and reporting information to the Chinese government. The Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States (CFIUS) is tasked with monitoring and investigating potentially detrimental foreign investments. However, concerns have been raised about the rapid sale of U.S. farmland, which could lead to the CCP acquiring land near military sites in the United States.
To counter the CCP's efforts to breach national security, Luetkemeyer, Chairman of the Subcommittee on National Security, Illicit Finance, and International Financial Institutions, introduced the "Safeguarding American Farms from Foreign Influence Act." This Act grants CFUIS the power to review and deny foreign purchases of farmland.
In February of last year, a large balloon flew over sensitive military locations in Missouri, raising suspicions of espionage on U.S. military sites. Beijing claimed it was a misplaced weather balloon, but concerns remained.
Luetkemeyer also collaborated with Kentucky Rep. Andy Barr to introduce the "Chinese Military and Surveillance Company Sanctions Act." This legislation builds upon prior Executive Orders issued by both the Trump and Biden Administrations, which identified Chinese military and surveillance technology firms as national security threats.
Luetkemeyer emphasized that the actions of the CCP are not coincidental, stating, "Nothing the Chinese Communist Party does is a coincidence or an accident. It has carried out strategic moves to bolster its competitive advantages, build an elite military, and increase its influence around the world. As the preeminent leader on the global stage, the United States represents both China’s greatest obstacle and, unfortunately, its greatest resource. Make no mistake, this parasite is not content with coexistence."
