U.S. Secretary of Education, Miguel Cardona, appointed 11 esteemed education leaders to the National Assessment Governing Board

This committee is in charge of administering the National Assessment of Educational Progress, or NAEP for short. This test is also referred to as the Nation's Report Card. The National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) has been an essential resource over the course of the past year for gaining a grasp of how the epidemic has exacerbated existing achievement gaps across a variety of subject areas and grade levels. Related surveys have also showed remarkable advances in areas such as chronic absenteeism, literacy rates, and instructors' perceptions in their capabilities to assist students in getting back on track academically.

In order to determine the standards, weights, and weighted averages that will be used for the Nation's Report Card, Congress appointed this nonpartisan group of 26 individuals to serve in this capacity. They collaborate with the National Center for Education Statistics in order to disseminate the findings once they are ready to do so.

The following statement was given by Secretary Cardona on October 6: "I'm certain the appointees named today will draw on their varied experiences, including as school leaders, educators, and parents, to impact decision-making over how we assess student performance in this country. I have the utmost respect and gratitude for these leaders and the fact that they are willing to serve on the National Assessment Governing Board at this vital time in the continued rehabilitation of our children from the disruption caused by the pandemic.

Among the most recent appointees are Lisa Ashe, Shari Camhi, Michelle Cant-Wilson, Angèle Infante-Green, Guillermo Solano-Flores, Darein Spann, and Jane Swift. Other new members include Guillermo Solano-Flores. Christine Cunningham, Patrick Kelly, Reginald McGregor, and Martin West will carry on in the roles that they have been given respectively.

Lesley Muldoon, the Executive Director of the National Assessment Governing Board, expressed her gratitude to the incoming members for all of their hard work. She also made a comment about how the newest class is more representative of the kids and teachers around the country because it is the most diverse class in the history of the country.

During the quarterly meeting of the board that will take place the following month, these newly elected directors will be given their official oaths of office.
