Johnson's election comes on the heels of a turbulent few weeks marked by the unexpected ousting of former Speaker Kevin McCarthy and subsequent failed nominations.

During a challenging moment, Johnson expressed gratitude for the "unwavering support from colleagues, friends, staff, and family" that he had received on X. 

"As Speaker, I will ensure the House delivers results and inspires change for the American people. We will restore trust in this body," Johnson said in a social media post. 

In the words of Dr. Kevin Roberts, President of the Heritage Foundation: "All of us at Heritage look forward to working with Speaker Johnson to secure the border, rein in spending, conduct serious oversight of the Biden administration, and provide real leadership on the world stage."

During the period of 2015–2017 when Johnson served in the Louisiana House of Representatives, he first rose to notoriety in the realm of public service. He won the election to serve as a representative for Louisiana's 4th Congressional District in December of 2016.

Johnson, who has long been a stalwart supporter of conservative causes, formerly presided over the Judiciary Subcommittee on Constitution and Limited Government. He has taken stances on issues as varied as the management of the border and the spending of government money, but his resistance to the so-called "LGBTQ" rights is particularly noteworthy. 

Johnson was elevated to the position of Speaker of the House of Representatives, further consolidating his status as a rising star within the Republican Party. Johnson won the position of Vice Chair of the House Republican Conference in 2021 and was reelected to that position in 2022. 

Johnson reportedly has had a troubled professional history, as stated by Politico. The results of the presidential election in 2020 in various states were contested in court with his support, and he had been involved in a heated push to alter the Endangered Species Act. In addition, the Endangered Species Act was amended.
