Aerospace Industries Association (AIA) President and CEO Eric Fanning welcomed the Biden Administration's recent Executive Order on artificial intelligence (AI), terming it a "game-changer".
According to a press release that was distributed by the AIA on October 31, 2023, President and Chief Executive Officer Fanning was quoted as saying, "The Aerospace Industries Association welcomes the Biden Administration's focus on artificial intelligence and is closely assessing its new Executive Order...The United States must cement its role as the leader and standard-setter for this technology - especially when it comes to data, people, and hardware."
According to statements made by President Joe Biden, this decree represents the "most significant action any government anywhere in the world has ever taken on AI safety, security, and trust." During a briefing, the President reportedly brought up a number of critical issues, such as the safety and security of artificial intelligence, the prevention of deceptive AI, the protection of privacy, the prevention of discrimination, the support of workers, and global leadership, according to a news statement issued by the White House.
Additionally, President Biden brought up the issue of misleading artificial intelligence and instructed the Commerce Department to develop labeling requirements for information generated by AI systems. "As artificial intelligence expands the boundary of human possibility and tests the bounds of human understanding, this landmark executive order is a testament to what we stand for: safety, security, trust, openness, American leadership, and the undeniable rights endowed by our Creator that no creator — no creation can take away, proving once again that America's strength is not just the example of its power but the power of its example," said President Biden.
A news release issued by the White House states that the order promises to make the United States a global leader in artificial intelligence innovation and mandates the protection of workers' rights in an economy driven by AI.
