The Biden-Harris Administration launched the National Spectrum Strategy with the objective to advance U.S. wireless leadership globally and provide better service for Americans.
As per a press release by the U.S. Department of Commerce, the Administration released a National Spectrum Strategy, identifying over 2,700 megahertz of airwaves for innovative new uses by both private sector and federal agencies. The strategy is directed towards advancing U.S. leadership globally and providing Americans with advanced wireless technology services. Improvements are anticipated in consumer wireless networks, aviation, transportation, manufacturing, energy, and space sectors. "Spectrum is a vital national resource that plays a central, if unseen, role in American life", said Alan Davidson, Assistant Secretary of Commerce for Communications and Information and NTIA Administrator. "Demand for this scarce resource continues to grow. The National Spectrum Strategy will foster innovation in the public and private sectors."
In addition to this, it has been identified that National Spectrum Strategy identifies 2,786 megahertz of spectrum across five bands for further study to determine suitability for new uses which is almost double the initial target of 1,500 megahertz including over 1,600 megahertz of midband spectrum which is in high demand for next-generation wireless services. The primary aim is ensuring US global leadership in advanced wireless technologies through identification of strong spectrum pipeline for private sector use improvement in coordination on spectrum decision-making focus on advanced technology growth in the spectrum ecosystem workforce via a National Spectrum Workforce Plan.
Moreover as per a release by the White House the National Spectrum Strategy outlines a roadmap enabling U.S to lead in advanced wireless technologies and services with active participation from diverse stakeholders whose expertise will be crucial in achieving its goals; these stakeholders include government as well as non-government entities. Emphasising trust transparency technological innovation open communication are seen as critical factors towards successful implementation of this strategy.
