Border Patrol agents in the San Diego sector made a substantial meth bust this week in an endeavor backed by federal and local law enforcement agencies. The bust was a result of Operation Apollo, a regional operation aimed at curbing illicit synthetic narcotics trafficking.
"San Diego #BorderPatrol agents seized over a quarter-million dollars worth of methamphetamine during a vehicle stop on Interstate 8 Tuesday night!", said Patricia D. McGurk-Daniel.
Setting the stage for this significant event,The statement comes after the revelation that over $281,940 worth of methamphetamine was confiscated by San Diego Sector Border Patrol during a vehicle stop on Interstate 8 Tuesday night.
Moving onto the specifics of the operation,According to a Customs and Border Patrol news release, agents pulled over a blue truck and conducted a traffic stop on the interstate near the Buckman Springs exit. While speaking with the motorist, agents noticed four large bags in the bed of the pickup. A call for a Border Patrol K-9 team was made that alerted agents to the presence of narcotics. The duffle bags in question contained 188 pounds of the crystal-like substance, methamphetamine, in bundles of clear packages containing a crystal-like substance.
After securing the drugs,The motorist and drugs were handed over to the San Diego County Sheriff's Office for additional investigation and processing, and the vehicle was seized by Border Patrol, according to the media release.
In remarks about their ongoing commitment,"Our agents will continue to work tirelessly to ensure our communities are safe and that these dangerous drugs stay off our streets," said Chief Patrol Agent Patricia D. McGurk-Daniel.
To put this operation into context,The seizure is part of recently announced Operation Apollo, which yielded 1,800 pounds of methamphetamine, 2,100 pounds of cocaine, 111 pounds of heroin and 1,285 pounds of fentanyl in the San Diego area during fiscal year 2023, according to the news release.
Elaborating on Operation Apollo's collaborative efforts,The new release states that Operation Apollo is a combined regional operation involving federal, state and local agencies working together in an effort to keep fentanyl and other illicit synthetic narcotics off the streets.
