Border Patrol agents in the Laredo sector made a sizable meth bust recently that took roughly 112 pounds of the drug off the streets and has a motorist facing smuggling charges. The incident, which led to a significant dent in drug trafficking activities, occurred with the assistance of Duval County Sheriff's Office during a vehicle stop.

"11/26: USBP agents in Freer, TX assisted Duval County Sheriff's Office with a vehicle stop. The use of a USBP K9 and x-ray technology led to the discovery of over 100 lbs. of Meth! So far, in FY24 (Since Oct. 1), USBP has interdicted over 100 cases with over 3400 lbs. of Meth.", said Jason Owens.

A media release from Customs and Border Patrol (CBP) states that the seized drugs are estimated to be worth $3 million on the street. After responding to a call for support from Duval County Sheriff Deputy during a traffic stop, Border Patrol agents from Freer Station played key roles in this operation.

The vehicle was moved to the Border Patrol Checkpoint on Highway 59 where search dogs were deployed and after performing non-intrusive scans, anomalies were detected at the rear bumper. A large number of meth bundles were found inside this hidden compartment within the vehicle.

Based on CBP reports, the total weight of confiscated methamphetamine was 111.75 pounds and valued at $3,576,320 in street terms. Following the seizure, Duval County Sheriff Office took control of all items including driver and vehicle involved in this case.

As part of Homeland Security's unified border agency initiative, CBP is responsible for extensive management, control and protection of our nation’s borders by integrating customs operations, immigration procedures, border security initiatives and agricultural protection at official ports of entry throughout U.S.A.. According to data available on CBP website, throughout fiscal year 2023, agents across the country have confiscated significant quantities of drugs including 27,000 pounds fentanyl, 140,000 pounds of methamphetamine, 81,100 pounds of cocaine, and 150,000 pounds of marijuana.
