IBM is purchasing StreamSets and webMethods platforms from Software AG

IBM has announced the acquisition of StreamSets and webMethods platforms from Software AG for a sum of 2.13 billion euros. This move is part of IBM's strategic focus on mergers and acquisitions aimed at strengthening their Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Hybrid Cloud offerings.

According to an IBM press release, the merger was initiated due to the crucial role that data integration solutions and applications play in modernizing AI and deploying it across enterprises. Both StreamSets and webMethods are recognized leaders in application integration, API management, and data integration. StreamSets, a cloud-native DataOps and data ingestion platform, provides enterprises with consistent access to detailed data across a broad spectrum of data types and solutions. It also facilitates the design of smart data pipelines while ingesting data in real time. On the other hand, WebMethods is an API management platform offering B2B integration, managed file transfer, and an avenue for monetizing APIs. At present, these two platforms serve over 1,500 clients worldwide.

The press release also cited predictions by IDC that the global integration software market will exceed $18 billion by 2027 with a compound annual growth rate of 16.1%. This market is expected to expand rapidly as the world increasingly embraces AI technologies. Software AG and IBM have been collaborating for more than two decades, and the addition of StreamSets and webMethods will diversify IBM's existing portfolio while benefiting its global operations.

Rob Thomas, Senior Vice President of Software and Chief Commercial Officer at IBM said: "Together with IBM's Watson AI and data platform, as well as its application modernization, data fabric and IT automation products, StreamSets and webMethods will help clients unlock the full potential of their applications and data." He added: "This powerful combination helps drive innovation while preparing businesses for AI, no matter where applications or data reside." Thomas concluded by saying: "Today's news will give IBM clients and partners one of the most modern and comprehensive application and data integration platforms in the industry."
