Border Patrol agents near San Clemente, California, have seized a significant quantity of methamphetamine, as announced by Chief Patrol Agent Patricia D. McGurk-Daniel via a social media post on X (formerly known as Twitter).

McGurk-Daniel stated, "127 pounds of meth kept off the streets by Border Patrol agents who discovered it inside a vehicle yesterday near San Clemente, CA." This announcement follows closely on the heels of another substantial seizure in November when the San Diego Sector Border Patrol confiscated over $281,940 worth of methamphetamine during a vehicle stop on an Interstate highway. This information was revealed in a news release by Customs and Border Patrol (CBP).

According to the CBP's news release, agents conducted a traffic stop on a blue truck near the Buckman Springs exit on the interstate. During their interaction with the driver, they noticed four large bags in the bed of the pickup. A Border Patrol K-9 team was called to inspect these bags which led to the discovery of narcotics. The duffle bags contained 188 pounds of methamphetamine packed in clear packages.

McGurk-Daniel emphasized her team's commitment saying, "Our agents will continue to work tirelessly to ensure our communities are safe and that these dangerous drugs stay off our streets."

Following this bust, both the motorist and drugs were handed over to the San Diego County Sheriff's Office for further investigation and processing. The vehicle was seized by Border Patrol as per details provided in the media release. This seizure is part of Operation Apollo - a combined regional operation involving federal, state and local agencies aiming to keep fentanyl and other illicit synthetic narcotics off the streets. Operation Apollo has already resulted in confiscation of 1,800 pounds of methamphetamine, 2,100 pounds of cocaine, 111 pounds of heroin and 1,285 pounds of fentanyl in the San Diego area during fiscal year 2023.
