A New Mexico man has admitted his involvement in a series of shootings targeting elected officials after the 2022 election. Solomon Pena, following an unsuccessful bid for a seat in the New Mexico House of Representatives, enlisted two men to target the homes of these officials.

The Department of Justice, stated in a press release, that Demetrio and Jose Trujillo were brought on board by Pena to execute a series of targeted shootings against elected officials. This development came about after Pena's failed attempt to convince the Bernalillo County Board of Commissioners to reject the election results. When they refused and certified the results, Pena decided to target the elected officials. On December 4th and 8th of 2022, Demetrio Trujillo carried out attacks on the residences of elected officials. Then, on Jan. 3, 2023, both Pena and Trujillo executed a shooting at the residence of another state official.

Jose Trujillo has pleaded guilty to conspiracy, interference with federally protected activities, using and carrying a firearm during and in relation to a crime of violence, discharging the firearm, as well as possession with intent to distribute fentanyl.

Demetrio Trujillo also pleaded guilty to conspiracy, two counts of interference with federally protected activities, one count each of using and carrying a firearm during and in relation to a crime of violence and discharging it. He faces a minimum sentence of 15 years in prison but could potentially receive life imprisonment. Meanwhile, charges against Pena are still pending; his trial is set for June.
