Washington, D.C. — CFTC Commissioner Summer K. Mersinger, sponsor of the Energy and Environmental Markets Advisory Committee (EEMAC), has announced that the EEMAC will be convening for a public meeting on Wednesday, April 10 at the University of Missouri – Kansas City in Kansas City, Missouri. The meeting will run from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. (CDT) and is open to both in-person and virtual attendance, space permitting.

Commissioner Mersinger highlighted the focus of the upcoming meeting, stating, "The last few EEMAC meetings focused on the metal and mineral markets and the crucial role of those commodities in the transition to renewable energy." She expressed anticipation for the discussions on "longstanding, traditional energy markets— crude oil and power markets—and how the state of those markets ultimately affect the price of energy and the cost to U.S. consumers."

The agenda for the meeting includes discussions on the federal prudential financial regulators’ proposed rules implementing Basel III and its impact on the derivatives market, as well as presentations on the state of crude oil markets and the future of power markets. Updates on the work related to traditional energy infrastructure and metals markets will also be provided by the EEMAC subcommittees.

Members of the public are encouraged to participate by attending the meeting virtually or in person. Additionally, individuals requiring special accommodations can contact the EEMAC Secretary, Lauren Fulks, for assistance.

The public can watch a live webcast or listen to the meeting through conference call options provided by the CFTC. Furthermore, written statements can be submitted in connection with the meeting by April 17, 2024, with instructions available on CFTC.gov.

The Energy and Environmental Markets Advisory Committee is one of the five active Advisory Committees overseen by the CFTC, aimed at providing advice and recommendations on regulatory and market issues affecting U.S. markets. The views expressed by the Advisory Committees are independent and do not necessarily reflect the views of the Commission or the U.S. government.
