Special Envoy to Advance the Human Rights of LGBTQI+ Persons Jessica Stern is set to visit Nadi, Fiji, from April 22 to 26. She will be speaking at the 3rd Pacific Human Rights Conference on Sexual Orientation, Gender Identity and Expression and Sex Characteristics.
According to Special Envoy Stern, "Special Envoy Stern will address the unique opportunities and challenges that LGBTQI+ persons in all of their diversity, Indigenous persons, and other communities face in the Pacific, as well as pledge the United States’ commitment to supporting efforts to promote and protect the human rights of LGBTQI+ persons throughout the region."
Special Envoy Stern's participation in the conference comes after an invitation from the "Pacific Sexual and Gender Diversity Network", a regional LGBTQI+ organization that operates in 14 member countries across the South Pacific.
In addition to her speaking engagement, Special Envoy Stern will also be traveling to Suva, Fiji. There, she will meet with representatives from the Government of Fiji and participate in senior-level dialogues with likeminded and multilateral partners on the sidelines of the conference.
