U.S. Representative Bob Good (VA-05) has announced his proposed legislation, the Iran China Accountability Act, which he claims will hinder Iran's cooperation with China and prevent taxpayer dollars from funding a potential nuclear agreement between the U.S. and Iran. According to Good, both Iran and China "seek America's downfall." He elaborated on the details of the Iran China Accountability Act in a press release issued on April 12.

"Iran and China both seek America's downfall," said U.S. Rep. Bob Good, U.S. Rep from Virginia's 5th Congressional District. "My legislation will hold the Chinese Communist Party accountable and ensure that Biden never re-enters the failed nuclear agreement with Iran."

According to this press release, Good stated that the Iran China Accountability Act aims to sever Iran's financial ties with China. The proposed legislation would obstruct the Biden administration from establishing another nuclear deal with Iran until such time as Iran "terminates its ties" with terrorist proxies, including Hamas. Furthermore, it requires that Iran eliminate any chemical weapons material. The bill also stipulates that the Chinese Communist Party must end the "incarceration of the Uyghurs."

Sarah Stern, Founder and President of Endowment for Middle East Truth (EMET), voiced her support for Good's legislation in the same press release. She referred to Iran and China as "our two greatest enemies," and deemed Good's legislation as "critically important." Stern went on to say, "Iran has already been the recipient of billions of dollars of US taxpayers’ funds through the JCPOA and has brutally massacred its own citizens who have courageously fought to overthrow their brutal theocracy. It has also created a network of terrorist proxies throughout the Middle East, as China has been attempting to purchase economic power throughout the region."

On April 13, according to CNN, Iran launched missiles into Israel under claims that they were retaliatory strikes following an attack on an Iranian diplomatic building on April 1. Notably absent was any condemnation from China regarding these Iranian strikes. Economic ties between China and Iran are significant; indeed, 90% of Iranian oil exports are purchased by China. In instances where U.S. sanctions are imposed against Iran, China provides economic support. A spokesperson for the Chinese Foreign Ministry stated, "Amid the ongoing turbulence in the Middle East, we oppose any act that would escalate the tensions."

According to his official website, U.S. Representative Bob Good has served Virginia's 5th Congressional District since January 2021. He is Chairman of the House Freedom Caucus and holds positions on both the Budget Committee and the Education and Workforce Committee, where he chairs the Health, Employment, Labor, and Pensions Subcommittee.
