The Department of Labor has unveiled a new interactive map aimed at highlighting more than 1,000 planned clean energy projects across the United States that have the potential to create good-paying jobs. This initiative is in line with the Biden-Harris administration's commitment to fostering job growth while addressing the pressing issue of climate change.
Acting Secretary Julie Su emphasized the importance of the map, stating, "This map is a collaboration between the U.S. Department of Labor and other federal agencies to help ensure that the Biden-Harris administration’s historic climate investments create good-paying jobs." The map is designed to provide valuable information to workers, unions, and the public about the tens of thousands of jobs that will be generated by clean energy projects.
The Inflation Reduction Act provides incentives for clean energy projects to prioritize high-quality and union jobs that offer prevailing wages and utilize Registered Apprenticeship programs. The interactive map showcases these projects that could be eligible for enhanced federal tax credits if they meet specific criteria.
Users of the map can sort through the planned clean energy projects by sector and state, gaining insights into each project's location, status, size, companies involved, and the estimated number of construction jobs that will support the initiative. While the information on the map is drawn from publicly available data, it does not indicate eligibility for federal tax incentives nor does it constitute federal taxpayer information.
By launching this interactive tool, the Department of Labor aims to facilitate collaborations between employers and unions, fostering worker-centric practices and providing valuable training opportunities within the growing clean energy sector. The map is a step towards realizing the administration's vision of creating a sustainable economy while ensuring the availability of well-compensated jobs in the clean energy industry.
