Netflix has released a sneak peek at the highly anticipated series "One Hundred Years of Solitude," based on the masterpiece novel by Gabriel García Márquez. The teaser includes a poignant quote from the novel: “Many years later, as he faced the firing squad, Colonel Aureliano Buendía was to remember that distant afternoon when his father took him to discover ice,” spoken by García Márquez himself.
Directed by Laura Mora and Alex García López, the series promises to be one of the most ambitious productions in Latin America to date, featuring a talented cast and crew from Colombia and LATAM. The show is filmed entirely in Spanish and shot in Colombia with the support of García Márquez's family.
The teaser showcases key moments from the novel, including Aureliano Babilonia reading from the mythical diary of Melquiades and Colonel Aureliano Buendía standing before a firing squad, reminiscing about his father taking him to discover ice. The scenes also depict José Arcadio Buendía and Úrsula Iguarán's journey in search of happiness, as they flee the curse that haunts their lineage.
The series boasts a stellar lineup of artists, including Claudio Cataño as Colonel Aureliano Buendía, Jerónimo Barón as Aureliano Buendía as a child, and Susana Morales as Úrsula Iguarán, among others. With 16 episodes in the pipeline, "One Hundred Years of Solitude" is set to premiere exclusively on Netflix in 2024.
"One Hundred Years of Solitude" is a timeless story that follows the Buendía family through generations in the mythical town of Macondo, plagued by madness, impossible loves, and a haunting curse. Published in 1967, the novel has been hailed as a masterpiece of Spanish-American and universal literature, selling over 50 million copies and translated into more than 40 languages. Gabriel García Márquez, the author, was awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1982 for his outstanding contributions to the literary world.
