Brussels, BELGIUM – Today, former Italian Prime Minister Enrico Letta presented his Report on the Future of the Single Market, as requested by the European Council in June 2023. The report aims to provide concrete and ambitious recommendations to the EU Member States and the European Commission, as a new five-year legislature is due to begin after this year’s European elections.
In response to the report, the Computer & Communications Industry Association (CCIA Europe) has expressed its support for efforts to strengthen the EU Single Market. CCIA Europe, a longstanding advocate of open markets, welcomes the initiative of European institutions to find innovative ways to enhance the Single Market.
CCIA Europe’s Senior Vice President & Head of Office, Daniel Friedlaender, emphasized the importance of the EU Single Market's competitiveness and the need for consistent regulations to foster entrepreneurship and open competition. He stated, "The next five years is an opportunity to knock down inconsistent regulations, foster entrepreneurship, and promote open competition. This is key to giving consumers more choices and better prices, and enabling the growth of real European success stories, both at home and abroad."
Friedlaender further highlighted the significance of ambition in driving the success of European startups and businesses. He stressed the need for Europe to match the ambition of innovative enterprises to ensure the completion of the digital single market for overall success. According to Friedlaender, "Europe needs to show as much ambition as its most innovative startups and businesses, to complete our digital single market with the conditions and mentality for success."
CCIA Europe stands prepared to collaborate with European institutions in establishing a harmonized Single Market that promotes innovation, attracts investments and talents, and ultimately benefits EU citizens and consumers.
