The Department of Defense (DoD) has announced a historic new security assistance package for Ukraine, aimed at addressing the country's ongoing battlefield needs and showcasing unwavering U.S. support. The package, provided through the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative (USAI), includes a wide range of equipment to bolster Ukraine's defenses.

The announcement, made on the two-year anniversary of the Ukraine Defense Contact Group, signifies a significant commitment from the United States to assist Ukraine in its defense efforts. The funding for this package was appropriated through a national security supplemental recently signed into law by the President.

According to the DoD, this assistance package differs from previous methods of support, such as the Presidential Drawdown Authority, as it involves procuring capabilities from U.S. industry or partners. The package, totaling up to $6 billion, includes a variety of equipment ranging from air defense systems to unmanned aerial vehicles.

In a statement, the Department of Defense emphasized that this initiative underscores the strong and unwavering commitment of the United States to help Ukraine combat Russian aggression. The support provided is part of a broader global coalition comprising around 50 Allies and partners.
